Cinder

I'm back again with another great book. I am reviewing...

                                         http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1317794278l/11235712.jpg
                                                     Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Rating: Five Stars

I loved Cinder. As you might of guessed from the name and cover, it's another version of Cinderella. If Cinderella was a cyborg in the future. You heard me- Cinderella the cyborg.

Cinder was turned into a cyborg from age 11 when she got in a serious hover crash. An orphan, she was sent to her stepmother and her two stepsisters. However, the youngest daughter Peony, is Cinder's only friend. She may make another one though, when the prince comes to her store ( Cinder is a mechanic) to fix his broken android. ( No, not the phone! An android is a robot designed to look like a human) Later in the day, Cinder and Peony go to a junkyard to collect scraps. Cinder sees a purplish spot on Peony's neck, and when she moves the collar,  discovers that she has the plague! Letimoses is a killer virus around the world for which there is no cure . Blaming Cinder for the outbreak, her stepmother volunteers  her for Letimoses cure research, for cyborgs only. No one  survives . But when she comes to the research center, the doctor notices a few strange things about Cinder...

I recommend this book for everyone who is tired of the same old Cinderella stories.                                       Check back soon!

Midwife's Apprentice and the Titanic

Today I have two things to mention. Number 1: another book review. This one's called the Midwife's Apprentice by Karen Cushman.

                                                   http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/57/The_Midwifes_Apprentice.jpg
Rating: two stars

This book is about a homeless girl with no name. One day, a town's midwife takes her in as an apprentice. The girl begins to feel like a failure, runs away, then comes back. The end.

I have NO IDEA why this book has an award. It's quite small, and so is the development of the story. There's only like 10 characters in the whole book, counting the ones you only mention as a person. The characters don't change at all, except for Beetle, the main character. And the only way Karen mentions that is changing is " beetle found herself getting smarter", and wow! What an amazing transformation she has gone through! Also, the book goes through three years and mentioning very little. The book mentions something that happens, then it's "the days went on" and it's a whole other year.

My second thing that I'm writing about is that today is the 101st anniversary of the Titanic sinking. I am a HUGE fan of the Titanic and know almost everything about it.

For instance, the crew members were specifiably told NOT to hurry the passengers to the lifeboats and to say it was a lifeboat drill. Therefore, many went back to sleep or continuing a game of cards or a conversation.
                                                        https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCyL50xmHHf7tJfMQOKnb9-g0xqW16NDZN2_3cdhRIb2bnucigh4XcLckSWm1jafdi-DeXbB7zAVLcvyUxtk625Min8P5gMB827_V_D9P0lTeaP9h9KCgZCz2x6X06Hdt3pErlVheZU_li/s1600/5657-Happy-Boy-Sleeping-In-His-Bedroom-Clipart-Illustration.jpg

Those that did get out of bed were grumbling and grumpy, and half asleep did not bring any blankets. If they made it to one of the lifeboats, they would have been freezing cold.

Many mothers took the warning seriously and made the children bundle up as they went outside. Well, wouldn't any mother be worried when they say to go to the lifeboats?

                                                   http://sweetclipart.com/multisite/sweetclipart/files/mother_and_child_1.png

The call was women and children first, but even if the warning was never heard, more men still would of died. Many were playing cards or smoking, and as Titanic was considered unsinkable, refused to go to the lifeboats, and sent their wives ahead.

The results of the confusion, sleep, and cards:

# of children: 109  Saved:56  Lost:53
# of women: 402    Saved:246 Lost:106                       Total Saved: 710
# of men: 805         Saved:146  Lost:659                       Total Lost: 1,514
# of crew:908          Saved: 212 Lost: 696

Well, ( depressed sigh) I'm done on this post. Bye!

Skary Childrin

Well, I'm back with a new book. It is...( drum roll please)

                                              http://horrornovelreviews.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/skarychildrin.jpg

Skary Childrin and the Carousel of Sorrow by Katy Towell
Rating: Five Stars

Skary Childrin is really creepy what with man eating carousels, disappearances, and a barfed up child. I had to stop reading it for one night to prepare myself for the ultra creepy grand finale. It was really great, and I think this is a series so I'll look out for more books.

The main characters are Adelaide Foss, Maggie Borland,Steffen Weller, and Beatrice Alfred. Adelaide has a strong resemblance to a wolf, with her long fingers and ears ( not to mention her acute sense of smell and hearing). Maggie is very grumpy, sarcastic, and strong. There are rumours that she once threw a teacher out of a window. Beatrice is only 7 years old, and can see ghosts. She even has a spirit mouse named Philip, who she keeps in her pocket.Steffen Weller is a cook's son who helps the girls thorough the mystery.

One day, two newcomers arrive. One is a librarian, and another is cheerful man who loves to sell delicious candy. The day afterword, people began disappearing. Can three "Scary Children" and a misfit boy save the town of Windowsbury?

That wraps up this blog, and check back soon!
PS Look out for the picture on Chapter 3

Inflatable World

Well, back again...but not with another book review! ( Which is good, because no book should be called Inflatable World.) Inflatable World is an outdoor area full of slides, obstacle courses, and yes, jump houses.  My mom took me and my little brother here during Spring Break. The drive took a while to get to, because it's in San Diego.
There were mainly slides with a bunch of different names, like Axe Man or Tiger Mouth or whatever. We went on those a lot of the time, even though I kept smashing into the walls.

There was also a Titanic slide, where you had to slide down as soon as you got up, because it was so steep. There were actually handles on the side to grab on to.  I liked it a lot because I really like the Titanic.
My favorite was probably the gorilla one, where you could choose between a bumpy slide and a  steep slide. We went on it over and over again, until it was time to go. We were both disappointed, because we had so much fun.
Well, it IS a review site, so I guess I'll be reviewing this too.
Review: FIVE STARS!!!!!!

If you want to go check out Inflatable World, here's the link to their website.

Tollins

Well, maybe I DO read at an alarming rate, because I have finished yet another book. This is different than the other book I've read. It is...

                                                   Tollins, by Conn Iggulden

                                  http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51kRefLUc0L.jpg

Rating: Four Stars

I found this book in the children's section of the library, but it still managed to capture my attention with its bright red cover and the Dangerous Book for Boys seal. I loved the Dangerous Book for Girls, so I thought I would give it a try.

This book was NOT what I expected. Which I guess is good, because I had low expectations. It was unlike any other book about winged creatures. I do not call them fairies , because they make a clear explanations that they are TOLLINS, not fairies.

Tollins had three stories, all which were interesting. They were How to Blow Up Tollins, in which Tollins try to find a solution to stop men from using them for color for their fireworks. In Sparkler and the Purple Death, a Tollin named Sparkler tries to find a way to escape from prison and execution when he was wrongly judged.  The last story, Windbags and Dark Tollins, Sparkler goes up in a hot air balloon, and Tollins from the country aren’t good house guests.

All these books have some form of science in them, and I actually learned a bit. Tollins explain chemicals, the atmosphere, and how steam is REALLY helpful. Like some forms of salt can make firework colours, and that the atmosphere goes thin, thick, thin, and steam... can be more explosive than dynamite. ( Don't try that at home)

I would recommend this to 4th graders or early 5th graders because it is simple, yet educational. I liked it a lot, and after reading this have many sympathies for fairies(you have been warned). I also heard that there were sequels, so I might look into that...

I have really enjoyed blogging, and if you have any suggestions, please leave a comment or follow! Look out for the next post!

Immortal

Well, I'm back, with a new book called Immortal, by Gillian Shields.

                                                  http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/6133/5266655.jpg

Rating: 3 and a half stars

This book says it's a romance, but it's more of a mystery. Half the book is told from the point of a sixteen year old girl named Evie, who is forced to go to a boarding school for rich ( and kinda snobby) girls who dislike her the moment she walks in. The other half is in the form of a diary written by a woman named Agnes who has special powers.

Evie meets a boy named Sebastian who looks ill and rides a black horse. She sneaks out to meet him every night, but stops for a while when she starts to have strange visions. One tells her to "stay away from him" and Evie thinks "him" may be Sebastian. Agnes has a friend who envies her power and wants them to gain immortality.

Now this sounds like some great, surprising romance/mystery book, but let me warn you. For me at least, Immortal was very predictable. There was hardly anything that surprised me when the mystery was solved. So choose for yourself if you should read this book or not.

Hope I can post again soon, for I don't have forever...

Welcome and TTYL

Hi! This is my first post, and my blog is about the books that I read and especially of all things Harry Potter. I will be rating the books on a scale of one to five. My first book I'm reviewing is called TTYL, by Lauren Myracle.

Rating:

TTYL is about 3 girls in 10th grade. The plot seems like any other book about teen girls you've read about before... but it's not. The entire book is told in IMs( instant messaging). Just to show you what I mean, I'll put in an example from the book.
SnowAngel:first u have to say it: maddie,angela,and zoe-together 4ever!
Madmaddie: er, maddie, angela, and zoe...what was that last part?
SnowAngel: *glares*
Madmaddie: i'm kidding,i'm kidding. But I don't HAVE to say it, angela, cuz it's true no matter what. Don't make me get all mushy.

The girls are Maddie(madmaddie), Angela(SnowAngel), and Zoe(zoegirl). Maddie gets into major trouble, Angela is that one girl that can't live without crushing on some boy, and zoe's teacher seems to want to be more than just a teacher...It's hard not to get sucked into the book. It's great because it seems like a real IM page with girls in high school, not some other book where girls only talk about boys and gossip.  However, be warned: this book has many swear words, and not everything is exactly appropriate for 11 year olds. But it is a really great book, and I recommend it to people who like both books and the internet

Well, that's how my first blog post went. Talk To You Later!

Post note from me later: This was a pretty rough post. My others are better, I assure you!
